Hair Restoration With PRP

Hair loss and baldness is a common concern amongst scores of people around the world today. While people look to over-the-counter topical hair oils or even medication to tackle the issue, it doesn’t always get better or resolve the issue. Researchers have discovered PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, to be an effective solution to defeat the causes of hair loss and baldness.

At Majestic Aesthetics, you can avail yourself of PRP treatments that will help you fight hair loss effectively. You can schedule a consultation with Laura Matjasich, a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner, who has over 13 years of experience in the field. She will answer all your questions and guide you through the entire treatment process so as to help you trigger the body’s natural regenerative process.

What Exactly is PRP Therapy?

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, is a procedure used to treat the ill-effects of hair loss using three significant steps. The patient’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected back into the scalp under the guidance of a medical expert.

The reason that PRP injections have gained popularity in the medical community is due to the previously established effects of this treatment. As per research, this procedure can trigger natural hair growth and sustain it by improving blood circulation around hair follicles. The increased flow of blood will enhance the thickness of the hair shaft, giving your mane a thicker, more dense appearance. PRP therapy is often used alongside other procedures and medications to improve the overall benefits of the treatment.

As the name suggests, PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a treatment that uses the benefits of platelets to improve the growth of hair on the scalp. Platelets can be found in our blood, along with other naturally occurring components. Platelets are responsible for furthering healing in the body. When a person suffers an injury, the components of blood that rush to the wound are the platelets.

As they are known for their healing properties, researchers have been able to deduce that by collecting only platelets from the blood and injecting them into a different part of the body, targeted for treatment, the healing process can be expedited.

PRP is abundant in growth factors and proteins that are primarily responsible for accelerating the repair of damaged tissues. Hair loss can be based on several reasons, but a significant cause is damaged hair follicles. A condition called androgenetic alopecia, wherein men and women notice severe hair thinning over time, can be treated with the help of PRP therapy.

Only a person qualified in the medical field can extract the platelets from the blood with efficiency. Laura Matjasich, Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner, is highly experienced in carrying out the PRP procedure with care. The procedure has been in use since the 1980’s and has been perfected by several medical experts over the years. In fact, the treatment is also known to be popular amongst doctors who use it to treat sport injuries caused to tendons, ligaments, and muscles.

What Happens During the PRP Procedure?

PRP treatment cannot effectively display its complete effects in just one sitting. You can schedule a consultation at Majestic Aesthetics, and Laura can provide you with all the necessary information regarding the procedure. After a comprehensive examination, she can assess whether or not you are a proper candidate for the procedure.

Every PRP therapy session will mainly involve three major steps.

In the first step, your blood will be drawn using a needle. The blood is typically taken from your arm. The extracted blood is then put into a centrifuge – which is a machine that uses rapid centrifugal force to separate fluids.

Next, your blood will be left in the centrifuge for about ten minutes. During this time, the machine separates different components in your blood based on their varying densities. Eventually, the blood will split into three layers – platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells.

Lastly, the platelet-rich plasma layer of the blood will be drawn up into a syringe. This will then be injected into the scalp, especially on those areas where hair thinning is at its most.

The PRP helps to stimulate the stem cells within the inactive hair follicles. This in turn triggers new hair growth. Once your medical provider has completed the injections, the areas treated will be cleaned. Once treatment is complete you are free to resume your daily activities.

How Long do Results Last?

PRP therapy can’t exactly cure hair loss but it can go far in reversing the effects caused by diminishing hair growth. For this reason, PRP therapy will see its best results when performed by a medical practitioner on a consistent basis. In most cases, the patient will require up to three total treatments to begin seeing the effects of the procedure. These three treatment sessions will be spaced out in intervals of 4-6 weeks.

The effectiveness of the treatment varies from person to person but once new hair growth and thicker, existing hairs become visible over the following weeks and months, you will be called in for maintenance appointments every 4-6 months in order to improve the chances of significant hair growth.
