Microneedling With PRP

Make Fine Lines, Wrinkles, Scars and More, a Thing of the Past

Are you fed up with or tired of feeling as if your face looks dull and lifeless? Have you been advised to undergo a skin rejuvenation treatment in hopes of regaining beautiful skin? Fine lines, wrinkles, skin blemishes, acne scars, and even damage from the sun can all be easily addressed, thanks to the power of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), in conjunction with microneedling. Improved appearance is possible with each subsequent treatment, resulting in more naturally looking healthy skin.

Often times, doctors recommend medication or chemical bleaches or minerals to help rejuvenate the skin. While they may be effective, they are still attempting to address the problem at an external level. Not to mention, If your skin happens to be particularly sensitive, you may even worsen the appearance and health of your skin.

Luckily, there is a new treatment that overcomes all the challenges of traditional facial rejuvenation treatments. This has come to be known as microneedling with PRP or the vampire facial. It is a new-age cosmetic dermatological treatment that uses your own blood to heal and revitalize your skin.

The fact is nothing is as safe for your body as its natural fluids. Your skin will look and feel infinitely healthier and more revitalized than it will if you use any other treatments. At Majestic Aesthetics, Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner Laura Matjasich has extensive experience providing microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma).

What is Microneedling With PRP?

Microneedling with PRP is a medical procedure where your own blood is used to revitalize your skin. This is a minimally-invasive alternative to other forms of skin rejuvenation treatments.

Microneedling with PRP differs from traditional facial procedures in just one way – instead of using synthetic revitalization creams and serums or lasers, microneedling with PRP uses your own blood. The platelets in your blood have the natural ability to heal damaged and old facial dermal tissues, while also stimulating the regeneration of healthy tissues.

The platelet-rich plasma stimulates the production of collagen in the skin. It can also make the skin softer, more supple and more elastic.

What is the Difference Between Microneedling and Microneedling With PRP?

Adding Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to microneedling may serve as a valuable complement to improve the regenerative effects of the procedure. Incorporating the use of PRP during microneedling may improve healing and the overall outcome in those undergoing the procedure to address facial scarring. Applying PRP after microneedling can enhance the results for the patient due to the high concentration of growth factors found in PRP.

What Benefits are Offered by Microneedling With PRP?

Microneedling with PRP has been found to have positive effects on various facial conditions such as:

  • Dull and leathery skin
  • Sun damage
  • Discoloration, pigmentation and dark spots
  • Scars and burn wounds
  • Wrinkles and fine lines

Although called a facial, this treatment procedure can be done on the neck, shoulders, upper back and upper chest areas. Once the treatment is complete, the skin is left glowing, feeling softer and healthier.

Who is Eligible to Receive Microneedling With PRP?

Before you undergo microneedling with PRP, our medical provider will conduct a thorough evaluation of your health and the vitality of your skin. An exact course of treatment will then be drawn up based on your specific needs. Typically, people who cannot undergo this procedure are those who have:

  • Low platelet count
  • Still have active acne resulting in new scarring
  • Skin infections
  • Blood infections
  • Dermatological conditions
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Skin cancer

Apart from the above, people who are on blood thinners are also ineligible to receive this medical treatment, due to low platelet count. Additionally, it is recommended that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding undergo this treatment at a later date. You can seek the advice of Laura before making a decision.

How is the Procedure Performed?

Before the procedure, your skin will be assessed and your blood will be tested to ensure the procedure is ideal for you. Next, we will identify the site from which to draw the blood and the sites where the platelet-rich blood will be administered to you.

On the day of the treatment, microneedling with PRP begins with the drawing of blood. A needle and syringe are used to draw between 5ml & 15ml of blood from a closed vein in the arm. The collected blood sample is placed in a centrifuge where the platelet-rich plasma gets separated from the blood. These platelets are full of growth factors known for their wound-healing and rejuvenating properties.

A single centrifuge session takes about 15 minutes. Once this session is completed, the blood is subjected to a second run on the centrifuge. This results in the creation of a super-enriched platelets-rich extract called the PRP concentrate. The PRP concentrate is then put into a serum applicant and set aside.

Next, a microneedling device is used to prepare the skin for the concentrate. This device creates tiny holes in the top layer of the skin, where they act as absorbent pores for the PRP concentrate. The skin of the patient is gently wiped clean. A local anesthetic may be applied to the face, if necessary. Then, the micro needles are used to lightly prick the skin (to around 2mm in depth).

Once the microneedling is complete, the PRP concentrate is applied over the face using the serum applicator. While you may experience a gentle prickling sensation when the microneedling is done, the entire procedure is otherwise pain-free. Any left-over PRP concentrate is gently massaged into the skin.

The serum, once absorbed by the skin, will trick the skin into thinking that it is damaged and the dermal tissue regeneration begins. The entire procedure takes between 30-60 minutes, depending on the extensiveness of the treatment. Post-Treatment Care and Recovery

Post-treatment, the skin will be slightly bruised, swollen and tender. This is due to the microneedling. The skin may also be pink or red, also due to the needling process that is used during the course of treatment. This should subside completely within 24 hours, and you should regain your normal skin tone.

Depending on how sensitive your skin is, the bruising, swelling, and tenderness should also reduce between 1-4 days. There may be mild peeling of the skin for the first 1 to 2 days. Do not try and pull off the peeling skin, as it may cause permanent scarring. The peeling will stop in a few days time and you will be left with more youthful, fresh and rejuvenated skin.

You are advised not to apply any creams or use face wash or soap for the first 24 hours. After this, you can resume your normal skincare routine. We will be able to recommend any specific products or moisturizers containing SPF to keep your skin soft and hydrated.

How Often Should you Undergo Microneedling With PRP?

Most patients need anywhere between three to six sessions, with treatment sessions spaced about four weeks apart. At Majestic Aesthetics, Laura is passionate about addressing the needs of our clients and helping them achieve their aesthetic goals.
